An employment ending requires more than stopping the next payroll. The final settlement, often called finiquito, needs the remuneration and employment facts up to the end date. It should also be distinguished from any separate compensation that may apply according to the reason and circumstances of termination.

Identify the legal and factual basis for the ending before calculating amounts. A resignation, expiry and employer-initiated termination do not automatically follow identical procedures. Gather the contract, applicable collective agreement, relevant communications and proposed dates. Where the basis or process is uncertain, obtain the appropriate assessment before relying on a template letter.

Prepare the payroll history and record outstanding items: salary, variable pay, extra-payment arrangements, holidays and other amounts requiring review. Verify actual leave taken and sums already paid rather than assuming the personnel spreadsheet is current. Keep working-time and absence information available for the final period.

In a hypothetical case, an employee resigns after receiving part of a project bonus and taking several periods of leave. The company needs the bonus agreement, payroll records and approved leave history to assess the settlement. Copying the previous employee's finiquito would not establish what this person has earned or already received.

Check the required employment and Social Security actions separately from the monetary calculation. Identify who prepares communications, certificates and the relevant registration change, and retain their evidence. The last bank transfer does not demonstrate that every administrative step has been completed or that the reason for ending was properly documented.

Make the calculation understandable. Show each component, the period or basis used and deductions where applicable. Distinguish disputed items instead of presenting a single unexplained amount. Provide the documentation and handle signatures and payment through the appropriate process; an informal message accepting a total should not replace the required assessment and records.

A well-prepared file links the ending's basis, dates, settlement and completed administrative actions. It also identifies any unresolved question requiring prompt specialist attention. To organise the document request, contact info@taxdevelopmentconsulting.com with an anonymised outline of the employment arrangement, proposed reason for ending and outstanding pay or leave matters, without sending sensitive personnel records in the first message.
