A scenario is useful when it reveals what changes the decision. A result stated to the last euro can be misleading if residence, income classification or transaction terms remain unresolved. Start by defining the commercial objective and the alternatives genuinely available. Then build a comparison around consistent facts, showing explicitly where the legal treatment or future business outcome is uncertain.

Separate inputs into documented facts, reasonable forecasts and matters requiring professional confirmation. Keep purchase prices, ownership percentages and contractual dates linked to their evidence. Label assumptions about future profits or personal income. If one alternative uses optimistic growth while another uses cautious estimates, the comparison measures different businesses rather than different tax treatments of the same underlying proposal.

Show more than the final liability. Include cash timing, setup costs, ongoing administration, financing and the practical ability to implement each structure. Where personal and corporate consequences interact, present both sides. A benefit to the company may coincide with a cost to the owner. Explain the baseline so that an apparent saving is not simply the result of omitting part of the calculation.

Imagine a hypothetical consultant considering whether to continue personally or operate through a company. The model tests several realistic profit and withdrawal patterns while recognising additional corporate administration. It does not declare a universal turnover point at which incorporation is best. The useful question is whether the preferred option remains sensible when earnings, drawings or costs differ from the initial forecast.

Use sensitivity analysis for assumptions that can materially change the outcome. Ask what happens if a transaction completes later, a deduction is unavailable or projected revenue falls. Legal uncertainty should be described as such, rather than converted into an arbitrary percentage that suggests scientific accuracy. Keep a record of the legislation and evidence supporting each treatment proposed by the adviser.

The final decision paper should state the preferred scenario, the reasons and the conditions that would trigger reconsideration. Give each unresolved question an owner before implementation. A scenario review can help turn a polished spreadsheet into a practical decision aid, with calculations that can be explained and updated as documents, personal circumstances or commercial plans change over time.
