An overseas broker's portfolio balance is not an annual Spanish income tax calculation. Your reviewer needs the transactions and income behind it, together with costs, currencies and relevant foreign taxes. A statement designed for another country's tax system may omit information needed to assess the Spanish treatment.

Request a full transaction export, income statement and record of charges. Distinguish sales from purchases and cash withdrawals from investment returns. Include dividends, interest and corporate actions rather than focusing only on realised trading profit. If assets were transferred between brokers, obtain the earlier acquisition history instead of treating the transfer value as a new purchase cost.

For each disposal, preserve identifying information, acquisition and sale dates, quantities, proceeds and relevant expenses. Transactions in foreign currencies need evidence allowing a consistent euro calculation under the applicable rules. Ask the broker what its displayed profit figure includes before relying on it as the final amount.

In a hypothetical case, a resident investor moves a portfolio from one foreign broker to another and later sells part of a holding. The second platform's report starts at the transfer date. She obtains the original purchase records and corporate-action history from the first broker. Without them, the apparent gain shown by the receiving platform may not explain the actual investment history.

Keep foreign withholding evidence linked to the corresponding income. Potential relief for international double taxation depends on the applicable circumstances and limits; it is not simply every amount labelled tax on a foreign report. Identify the income country and the nature of the charge so the issue can be reviewed properly.

Separate the income tax calculation from any other reporting analysis concerning foreign assets. A complete broker report may be useful to both, but finishing one task does not establish that the other is unnecessary or complete. Avoid assuming that a platform's submission to an authority covers all your individual obligations.

Before handover, reconcile the opening and closing holdings with purchases, disposals and transfers. List missing purchase records and unexplained adjustments explicitly.
