Renta WEB is the Spanish tax authority's online system for preparing the annual personal income tax return. Its borrador, or draft, is a useful starting point. It should still be checked against your circumstances and records before submission, particularly where income or personal information may be incomplete.

Create your own annual inventory before opening the draft. Include employment, self-employment, property income, investments and relevant overseas items. Add changes in family circumstances and residence. This independent list helps you spot missing categories instead of allowing the screen's existing entries to define everything you think about.

Compare each item with supporting documents. Salary and withholding certificates, bank information, business records and property documents can explain differences. Check ownership shares and dates rather than assuming a shared asset belongs entirely to one person. An amount communicated by a third party can still need clarification or additional context.

A hypothetical resident employee rents out a small apartment and sells investments through a foreign broker. The draft contains her Spanish salary but not the complete information about the other activities. Accepting it because the salary matches would leave the review unfinished. She prepares the rental records and broker reports before determining the final figures.

Personal and regional information also deserves attention. Review the circumstances needed to assess any available deductions or other treatment, retaining the relevant evidence. Do not claim an item merely because a software box exists or because it appeared in a previous year. Check the rules applicable to the tax year being filed.

Before submission, review the full calculation and resolve warnings or unexplained entries. Confirm the bank details and payment or refund instructions. Preserve a copy of the completed return, its filing receipt and the working documents supporting changes made to the draft. Saving an unfinished session is not the same as obtaining proof of filing.

A careful review turns the draft into a return supported by your own evidence. If an item is uncertain, identify it before accepting the result rather than planning to remember it later.
